Windows Terminal is an open-source project and features multiple tabs, custom themes, configurations, Unicode and UTF-8 character support and a GPU accelerated text rendering engine. This is about to change as Kayla Cinnamon, a program manager for the Windows Terminal app, declared in a blog post that Microsoft intends to set Windows Terminal as the default command line on Windows 11 systems during 2022. Thus, Command Prompt and PowerShell utilised the Windows Console Host. Windows Console Host, conhost.exe, has been the default since the conception of Windows. Microsoft has announced that the Windows Terminal app will be the default command line experience on Windows.
